

Deacon Elbert Essett Jr. born September 9, 1939, to Elbert Essett Sr. and Francis Essett in Oakridge, Louisiana. After completing his education and entering adulthood on January 26, 1959, he married his first wife Nora Patterson Essett. During their union God blessed them with 6 children Kathleen Essett, Michael Essett (Karen Essett), Lajane Essett, Ronnie Essett, Darren Essett, and Eric Essett.
He married Evangelist Hazel Sparkman Essett on February 20, 1988 during their union came a step-son Eric Pryor and daughter Essica Essett Jackson(Guy Jackson). And he later retired from Indiana Veneer after 40 years employed as their boilerman.
Deacon Elbert Essett Jr., a deacon of Abyssinian Missionary Baptist Church, at the age of 85 years, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Home and entered his heavenly home.
He was proceeded in death by his parent’s Elbert Essett Sr and Francis Essett. Five brothers Clifton Essett, Steve Essett, Bobby Essett, Willie Essett and one sister Eva Jewel Essett Ferguson. One daughter Kathleen Essett and grandson Kevin Essett.
He lives to cherish in memory Evangelist Hazel Essett; children, Michael(Karen), Lajane, Ronnie, Darren, Eric, Eric(step-son) and Essica; god child Taiwonda Johnson; and sister Jo Mary Essett. And a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, a host of grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, and a host of great- great grandchildren.
A visitation for Elbert will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
