Elizabeth “Betty” Greene Riley, age 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Elizabeth was born March 19, 1931, in Troy, Alabama to the late Fannie (McQuagge) Greene and Rupert Greene. She is also preceded in death by her husband, James B. Riley and siblings, Rupert Greene, Helen Stewart, Fannie Easterling Clark, Sue Conway, and Alice Suiter. She lived in Destin, Florida for 14 years and recently moved to Trafalgar, Indiana where she was quick to make friends and become part of the community (which included numerous turkey and deer). Elizabeth was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church as well as 12 Stones Fellowship. At Trinity she was very active including being on the Vestry and a member of St. Monica's Guild. She was also a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was very proud to have been the first female editor of the Butler Collegian daily paper. During college, Elizabeth worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. prior to her 30-year career as a teacher in Warren Township. Elizabeth had a knack for cultivating and keeping up with many dear friends throughout her life. She had a love of gardening that she shared with her husband and carried on throughout the rest of her life. An avid reader and sponge for history, she was able to travel to many fascinating countries across the world. A lifelong patron of the arts, she took up oil painting in her 70s and 80s taking weekly classes at the local community college near her home in Destin, Florida. She lived a very full life up until the end and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Sean Riley (Jennifer) and Brian Riley (Beverly); daughter, Lara Stroud (Peter); grandchildren, Justin June, Lauren Maire, Sam Riley, Kaia Meinholz, Lindsay O’Neal, Molly June, Alex Lord, Steven Stroud, Mackenzie Lord, Emily Riley, and Callum Riley; and great grandchildren, Jack, Ella, Nellie, and 2 more great grandchildren on the way. Her Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 22, 2022, at 10:30 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208 with inurnment in the church columbarium to follow.
