

Elnor Jean Franklin affectionally known as Jeannie was born March 27, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Elijah Storey Sr. and James & Werdna Rodgers Beckwith. Elnor attended Indianapolis Public Schools 56 and 26 during her early years. She graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1949. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the St. Paul AME Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Elnor was united in Holy Matrimony to Obie Nicholas Franklin Jr. on December 17, 1955 and shared 48 years of marriage before his death in 2003. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this year.
Elnor had a strong work ethic. She began her civil service career in July of 1952 as a Key Punch Operator at Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center. She worked there over 37 years before retiring in July of 1988 ending her career as a Military Pay Specialist. Elnor was an intelligent hard worker that was promoted to several position before she retired. After retirement, she dedicated her time to her family and playing crossword puzzles and the lottery.
Elnor was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She had a giving spirit and would feed anyone who came over to visit. She loved to watch her soap operas and sports especially football, basketball, figuring skating and gymnastics. She would show off her cheerleading skills from time to time. She will be fondly remembered for all her stories and life lessons she passed down.
Elnor departed this earthly life on March 1, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Obie, brothers Elijah Storey Jr., Richard Swanigan, James, Clinton, Eugene, Robert, Kenneth and Richard Beckwith along with her sisters Mary Beadles, Gladys Goodman, Delois Cheney and Doris Jean Hubbard. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Helen Gaither and Tillie Mason, sister in laws Doris Beckwith, Peggy Storey, Barbara Alexander and Deborah Polin (Roscoe), children Kevin Franklin, Lynne Brown (Roger), and Shelley Lane, “adoptive daughters” Andrea Smith (Tony) and Donna Patterson (Armond), her grandchildren Tiffany Robin-son (Reginald), Kimber Jones (Brandon Sr.), Kevin Franklin II, Kyia Franklin, Christopher Lane Jr. (Terrye), Matthew Lane Sr., Amy Boyd (Brion Sr.), her fur grandbabies Kirby Michael Brown and Sweet Thing Jones along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
