ERNEST OTIS WILLIAMS was born on January 28, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the fifth child out of nine born to Harry Williams, Sr. and the late Leola Mary (Lewis) Williams. At an early age Ernest accepted Christ, he was baptized at Community Baptist Church and continued to put God first for the rest of his life.
He attended Indianapolis Public School # 42 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. He attended IVY Tech Community College and joined the Army in 1975. Ernest served his country in the U.S. Army for 15 years. He was stationed at Leavenworth Kansas, Fort Meade Maryland, and Katterback Kaserne Base in Ansbach, Germany. He served as a military occupational specialist, studied and received certification in Dental Technology at Fort Hood, Texas. Some of his accolades include achieving the rank of Platoon Sergeant, Staff Sergeant of the Denk Tech Department, and the Best Kept Yard Award.
Ernest married his high school sweetheart, the love of his live Rozenia Owens of Crystal Springs,
Mississippi. The two met when they were teenagers. Ernest a Senior at Attucks and Rozenia a Freshman introduced to each other through one of Ernest’s long time friend’s uncle, and Rozenia’s aunt on a street called Hall Place. From that moment they were inseparable and joined in Matrimony on November 14, 1970. They were married for 52 years, from this union were born three kind and loving children. Ernest had natural athleticism and was athletically gifted as a child. He always dressed nice and wore nice cologne. He loved Army and Sci-fi movies, jazz music and outdoor activities. He spent many evenings sitting on the porch after long days of work during the week, or after tending to his yard and washing the car inside and out on the weekend. Nearly all of those nights ended with him on the porch looking to the sky observing the stars and our solar system, thinking of something greater. Ernest always gazed at the sky and had his rockets pointed towards the moon so his family would be amongst the stars. He was charismatic, good with children and never met a stranger.
Ernest Otis Williams departed this life on March 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Sr. and mother, Leola (Doll); and brothers Charlie, Johnnie, and Garry. He is survived by his loving wife Rozenia; two sons, Ernest Patrick, and Centurion Donte; one daughter, Rochelle; and two grandchildren, Damendica and Ernest, Jr.
He will be missed by his brothers Harry Jr. (Gayle), Larry (Bertha), Hally, and sister Leola
(Thomas); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. We loved
him dearly, but God loved him best.
