Eula Maetta Moore Watkins was born June 24, 1931, in Terre Haute Indiana. She was the youngest of 3 children born to the union of John Moore and Mary Sibley Moore. Sadly, her mother Mary passed away when Eula was 11 and her father finished raising his 3 daughters.
Eula, affectionately known to her family for years as Betty, graduated from Wiley High School in 1948 and attended one year at Indiana State Teachers College. She accepted Christ at an early age at Freewill Baptist Church in Terre Haute IN.
Eula, married James Watkins in 1950 and to that union 4 children were born, Deborah, Linda, James and John.
In Terre Haute, Eula decided to attend school at St Anthony Hospital studying to be a surgical technician.
The family moved to Indianapolis IN in 1967, and she continued her career as a surgical technician at St Francis Hospital, then located in Beech Grove IN. She worked there until choosing to retire at age 62 to help care for her daughter Linda who passed away 2 years later in 1994.
In Indianapolis, Eula joined Phillips Temple CME Church where she remained a member for over 40 years until her passing. At Phillips Temple CME she worked in a few ministries, but her favorite was the Lydia Guild, and she is the last of those original, dedicated ladies to pass away.
Eula was a devoted mother and worked tirelessly to raise and provide for her children as James Watkins Sr passed away in 1973. It was important to her that her children all attend college.
In later life Eula, being in good health, was able to travel to many states, including Hawaii and overseas. She suffered a stroke in 2005 that paralyzed her left side, but her mind remained strong, and her wit became stronger!
Eula was preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Mary Moore, her 2 sisters, Jennie Mae Booker and Lena Anne Moore and her daughter Linda.
On August 11, 2025, God called Eula home to rest, but her spirit lives on with those who loved her.
She leaves to cherish her daughter Debbie Jackson, son James Watkins Jr (Jane), son John Watkins (Louise), grandchildren Stephanie Jackson, Lindsey Watkins, Jason Watkins, Alana Watkins and 4 great grandchildren, Jayden, Gabriella, Arthur James and Royce.
She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, their children, friends, and those who knew her well at Phillips Temple CME.
The family of Eula Maetta Watkins (Betty) wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the calls, cards, condolences, prayers, and any other expressions of kindness in this time of great sorrow.
May God bestow His blessings upon each of you.
Humbly submitted - The Family
