Born March 7, 1951, in Gary, Indiana, Farrell Henderson, Sr. is the third child and son of TrueLove and Fred C. Henderson, Sr. Known affectionately as “Pharoah” or “Godfather,” you could recognize him for his smile, distinct whistle from afar and congenial personality.
As a child, his family relocated to Indianapolis. Farrell Sr. was always an extrovert who absorbed his new surroundings, learning the who’s who and the ins and outs of his neighborhood while attending School 32. Farrell had a mind for numbers and excelled at math and interpersonal skills.
Always a hard worker, Farrell had many jobs as a youth, including delivering newspapers, running errands for the neighbors, and making deliveries for the local variety store. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1970, and shortly thereafter began working for the Chrysler Corporation. During his time at Chrysler, he made a host of lifelong friends and was continually willing to help a fellow autoworker, serving as a Team Leader for many years.
After nearly 50 years in the automotive industry, he retired in 2017. You could then often find him mingling with his neighbors on his daily walks, watching CNBC, checking the stock market, attending the sporting events of his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, fulfilling his entrepreneurial spirit by flipping homes, taking casino trips, visiting friends, and simply enjoying what life had to offer. As a wanderer Farrell often chartered his path and was a master at coloring outside the lines.
Farrell, Sr., departed this life and transitioned to eternal life on the afternoon of March 10, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his sons, Anthony (Jennifer), Farrell Jr. (Tihesha), Elliott, and Evan; a daughter, Kristin Gilmore; seven grandchildren; brothers, Fred and Francis Henderson; sisters, Floree Stallion and Flozell Willis; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and associates. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Franklin Henderson.
Services will be held in the Memorial Chapel at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., with visitation held Friday, March 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with services beginning at noon. Interment will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
