Faye Arnold Buckley, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23rd, at the age of 90. Born in Adams, Massachusetts, on August 26, 1934, she lived a life dedicated to family, service, and the care of others.
Faye graduated from MacDuffie School for Girls in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1952. She continued her education at Tufts University, earning a degree in education. She later pursued a degree in physical therapy at Bouve Boston in 1956.
Following graduation, she was ready for adventure and drove out to Indianapolis, IN, to begin her career as a PT at the Cerebral Palsy clinic at the IU Medical Center from 1956-1960. It was there she met Bob Buckley, who was attending dental school. They soon married and raised four children while she was a stay-at-home mom. When she was almost fifty, she returned to her PT role at Manor Care Healthcare (Americana) for almost twenty years. Very respected, she really came into her own and was named director of the PT department. She made lifetime friends and became known for her strawberry daiquiri parties and yummy desserts. She brought love and laughter to everyone she met.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Thomas and Elsie Arnold, as well as her siblings Jean Plunkett (Doug), Robert T. Arnold II (Penny), and Frank Edward (Marylou). She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Rayford Buckley (1958–2003) and William Sigman (2008-2020).
Faye is survived by her loving children, Robert Rayford Buckley III (Rex) (Ruthie), Tom Buckley (Shelley), Susan Buckley, and David Buckley. She was a very proud grandmother to Robert Rayford IV (Ryan), Rex Jonathan (Taylor), Abigail Marie Alcorn (George), and Griffin Thomas. Her great-grandchildren Hazel Faye Alcorn and Brooks Paul Alcorn gave her tremendous joy in her final years.
Faye was a devoted member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church for over fifty years and later a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she made cherished friends. Volunteering at the coffee and donut hour, visiting shut-ins through the Care Committee and attending the women’s book club. She was an active participant in PEO Chapter BI (2005–2024), as well as a proud member of the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over fifty years.
In her free time, Faye loved to ride bikes, play tennis and take daily walks, where she was known to chat and make friends with anyone she met along the way. It was when she moved to Bluestone that she met neighbors who quickly became lifelong treasured friends. They gathered weekly for lunch and Mahjongg and for dinner and Euchre. They even called themselves the Loonettes, as they were such a fun-loving, close-knit group.
Faye is most loved for her wonderful sense of humor, always sharing a story, joke or lyrical rhyme. She enjoyed dressing up in funny outfits bringing joy and laughter to others. Always kind, generous, accepting, Faye had an unwavering love for her family and friends.
A visitation for Faye will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
