

Freezell Brown Sr. was born Sept 19, 1935, in Forest Mississippi. He was the youngest son of eight children born to Moses Brown and Hattie (Waters ) Brown. After the passing of his father Moses, Freezell was dedicated to the continual upkeep of the family farm. He forgoed his education to help out on the farm. It wasn’t uncommon for him to be always available for whatever the needs of his mother required. Outside of his farm duties, his favorite pastime was singing.
At the age of 14, Freezell traveled around many counties in Mississippi surrounding his hometown, singing for the Lord in male choral groups. After moving to Indianapolis at the ripe old age of 18, he became a member of Beulah Baptist Church. There he held the office of deacon and head of the male chorus for many decades. Every service was graced by his presence either singing or performing his duties as a deacon. Freezell was well known within the community of church male choruses in the city through sister churches.
Freezell was united in holy matrimony to Alice C. Samuel in Indianapolis, Indiana which blessed them with 5 beautiful children.
Freezell retired from two places of employment. Riley Tar and Chemical and Continental Bakery(Wonder Bread). Both places produced challenges but those challenges were not insurmountable with 44 years of hard work between the two.
Freezell enjoyed watching many kinds of sporting events from golf, to wrestling. When he wasn’t at church or work, these events occupied his time. Holiday family gatherings and family reunions were his passions as well.
Freezell departed this life on Sunday, August 6th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife: Alice Brown, son: Lawrence Brown, grandson: Jonathan Marte’, parents: Moses and Hattie Brown, brothers: Bishop Brown(Macy), and Lovie D Brown(Maggie), sisters: Claudia Murrell(Raymond), Genvia Skaggs, Mattie Owens(Fred), Beulah Owens(EJ), Birdie Sherrod(Henry).
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: sons: Freezell Brown Jr(Maria), and Jerry Brown(Sherry), daughters: Loretta Marte’, and Darlene Boyd, grandchildren: Michael Brown, Jessica Harris(Samuel), Joseph Marte’, Jordan Brown(Lindsay), Joshua Brown(Erin), Stacia Boyd, Devonte Boyd, great grand-children: Serenity, Samuel, Evan, Davonte and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
