

George Tony Chernovsky, age 88, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was born July 4, 1934 in Minden, West Virginia to the late Tehone Chernovsky and Anna Josephine (Duda) Russnen. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy A. (Carlson) Chernovsky and sons, Douglas and Wayne Chernovsky.
George retired as Master Sergeant US Air Force Veteran and owned and operated Carlson Real Estate with his family. In the Air Force he served over 20 years as a trainer in the maintenance field and as a technical writer in the aircraft and missile fields. During his career he was involved in the Minuteman Missile project at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Between the Air Force and starting the real estate company he spent time as an automotive instructor at Lincoln Tech. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, and boating in his spare time. George was often found enjoying polka music and dancing at family gatherings and picnics or at the blackjack and craps tables in Las Vegas. He loved to build things around the house and do woodworking projects for family.
George is survived by his daughter, Denise Benson; grandchildren, Nathan Benson, Zach Chernovsky (Amy), Alayssa Cordell (Clayton), and Whitney Zahn (Ryan); great grandchildren, Grant, Ava, Fiona Cordell, Declan, Abigail, and Macklan Chernovsky, and Everett and Calvin Zahn; siblings, Tillie Griffith, Carl Hansen (Kathleen), Michael "Mike" Hansen (Linda), and Edward "Eddy" Hansen; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana June 6, 2023 at 2:00pm with military honors.
