

Geraldine Louise Chavis was born on October 28, 1953 to the late Honorable Parick E. Chavis Jr. and Marjorie B. Moss. She was named after her maternal Grandmother, Geraldine Evans Thornton of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Geraldine graduated from North Central High School Indianapolis, IN, Ball State University Muncie, IN, and Western New England College of Law, Springfield MA. She was an accomplished and respected attorney. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 26 and continued to practice law for the next 28 years. Retiring from her position as Chief Legal Counsel for the Housing Authority of San Francisco in 1995, she returned to Indianapolis and continued to practice her craft in the family practice, CHAVIS & CHAVIS.
A gifted orator, an avid reader, an accomplished violinist, a gourmet cook, a talented seamstress, she loved life. A seeker, a teacher, a preacher, a peace giver, she loved God.
We all felt so blessed and grateful to have her as, a sister, an aunty, a cousin, and a friend.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents: the Honorable Patrick E. Chavis Jr. and Marjorie B.Chavis Moss. She is survived by her brothers Patrick E. Chavis III (Claudia), David L. Chavis, her sister Susan Chavis Bevel (Charles), aunts, Dr. Marlene Shipp Chavis, Dr. Edna DeBro Chavis and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
