Nécrologie de Glenda Carole DeBurger
Glenda Carole Britt DeBurger, of Beech Grove, Indiana, died peacefully at home with her family on May 15, 2022. Glenda was born January 19, 1940 to Nora Pauline Forshee Britt and Odell Dixon Britt in Franklin, Kentucky. She was sister to Darrell Dixon Britt, who preceded her in death, and sister to Janice Faye England of Greenwood, Indiana. Glenda always believed she was born an old soul. She loved being around adults and listen to them talk. She helped out by cooking and cleaning and caring for siblings as her mother went back to work. She met Ralph Leroy DeBurger Jr, when she was 12 years old. 4 years later and in love, the two were married October 9, 1956. Glenda and Jr. would soon become a family of five. Robin Lynn DeBurger Webb was born August 23, 1957 and resides in Nashville, Indiana with her husband, Mark Webb. Michael Scott DeBurger was born July 24, 1959 and resides in Oaklandon, Indiana with his wife, Darolina Coomer DeBurger. Danny Odell DeBurger, who preceded our mother in death, was born March 1, 1961. Until all children were of school age, Glenda was a stay at home mother. Kindness, creativity, love of family and of God were the important lessons instilled in her children’s lives. Glenda was very involved in her children’s education, volunteering for many activities and functions as well as being apart of the PTA at Indianapolis Public Schools, Thomas D. Gregg #15 and Harshman Jr. High. When busing began in Indianapolis, and students didn’t go home for lunch any more, Glenda became School #15’s first lunch lady. She also volunteered as a teacher’s aide. Willard Litz, Principal, recognized Glenda’s dedication to the students and her passion for education. He encouraged her to finish her formal education to become a full-time educator. While being hired as a classroom assistant, Glenda received her GED and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from IUPUI. She then began her career as a first grade teacher. Although she enjoyed all aspects of teaching, teaching her students to read was the most enjoyable and rewarding to her. Glenda would joyously further her own education with a Masters in Elementary Education, also from IUPUI. Glenda would continue to teach at Thomas D. Gregg #15 until her retirement in June of 2003. When Glenda wasn’t teaching, she was reading and traveling the United States with her husband, Jr. of over 30 years until Jr’s death in 1996. Glenda would soon move back to Beech Grove were she had previous lived with Jr. She spent the next 25 years on her own with the support of her family doing the quiet things she loved; watching movies with her youngest son, doing puzzles and word searches, and being a prolific reader. Glenda is survived by her Grandchildren; Dennis DeBurger, Shirley DeBurger Gray, Ian Donald Rossman, and Britt Isaac (Brienne) Rossman and Bryan Webb. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Stephen Yount, Claire Gray, Brodyn Gray, Peyton DeBurger, Xander DeBurger, Skylar DeBurger, Liam Rossman, Molly Rossman and Liliana Webb. Glenda was the matriarch of her family and though she will greatly missed, we rejoice as we know she is walking with God. A visitation for Glenda will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Family Funeral Care-Rockville West, 5791 Rockville Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46224.
