

Gloria received her education in Shaw, Mississippi. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.
Gloria moved to Chicago, Illinois with her family in 1962. In 1964 Gloria met and married the love of her life Mr. Johnny L. Phillips and to this union two children were born. In 1965, Gloria and her husband moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gloria worked and retired from housekeeping at Methodist Hospital. She was an member at Christian Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
Gloria, sometimes called big Jean, was a devoted and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She would often say with a laugh, "show me what you're working with, or I know that's right?, You hear me don't you?".
Gloria loved baking her favor pound cake and peach cobbler. She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed listening to music, going to church, planting flowers, fishing, shopping, playing cards, but most of all she knew and loved the Lord.
Gloria will forever be loved and missed by everyone who knew her.
Mrs. Gloria Jean Phillips departed this life on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her parents; Mr. Eddie and Mrs. Llee Hedgewood, son; Michael Phillips, three brothers; Eddie, Charles, and Johnny L. Hedgewood, sister Sadie Ross; and great granddaughter Molly Hill.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Johnny L. Phillips husband of fifty -four years, daughter Nicole Phillips; Brothers; Will Hedgewood of Milwaukee, WI., Roy (Geneva) Hedgewood, of Chicago, IL; sisters; Hattie (AD) Jones of Chicago, IL; Juanita Watson of Chicago, IL; Ruth Hedgewood of Chicago, IL; Ella Green of Chicago, IL, three granddaughters, two grandsons, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, one brothers-in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
