Gregory Layne Thompson

Gregory “Hands” Layne Thompson Born March 20,1958 in East Chicago Indiana to James & Lilian. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 64, on October 1, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lynette “Ruthie”, his children: Ramon, Shalauna, Maurice, Julie, Jessica, and James (Iris). 20 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews. Greg grew up in Hammond, Indiana and went to Hammond Tech where he graduated in 1976 . He went on to play sports at Western New Mexico University & received an Associates Degree in Physical Education. Greg then enlisted in the United States Navy, from 1983-1995. Greg loved to fish, watch Little League games, & spend time with his family. He will be remembered by his coaching legacy, outgoing personality, & big heart. He will truly be missed by so many.
