Harold, also known as Enrico Toney, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 15, 1942 to the late Harold Albert Shaffer I and Elizabeth Saltzman Shaffer. After graduating from Ben Davis High School, Harold continued his studies at Indiana University earning his Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies as well as a Master of Arts in Education as well as a Master of Library Science.
Upon completion of his collegiate studies, Harold began his career in 1965 as a High School Teacher at Noblesville High School for 6 years while also serving as an adjunct Instructor with Indiana University in the English and Language Arts Departments. After beginning his career in Indiana, Harold went on to work for the United States Library of Congress in Washington, DC before returning home to Indiana to begin a distinguished 30+ year career with the Indiana University Library System.
Harold is survived by his children; Amanda Shaffer (Johnny) Koers and Josh Shaffer (Lauren), grandchild; Jian Patrick Koers, and his sister; Ann Hackbirth.
In addition to his parents, Harold is also preceded in death by his sister; Lana Mundell.
A graveside service for Harold will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 N Holt Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222.
