Nécrologie de Henry E. Harlan
OBITUARY Henry E. Harlan affectionately known as “Sonny” was born to Leslie Harlan and Lena Mae Deal Harlan on March 20, 1954 in Webb, Mississippi. He attended Black Bayou Elementary School and graduated from West Tallahatchie High School in 1975. He later became a substitute school bus driver. Upon graduating from high school, Sonny moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. He became employed at Stokely Van Camp and later went on to obtain employment at General Motors where he worked from 1976 to 2006 as a machinist. In 1981 Sonny was blessed with a loving daughter, Ericka Nicole Harlan (mother Vivian). Sonny lived life to the fullest. He loved his family dearly and loved to travel. He traveled with his parents and siblings for years. He united in holy matrimony to Teresa Woodson affectionately known as “Terri” in 1998 under the Honorable Reverend Gary Manual. He was married for 22 years before departing this life. Upon their marriage he introduced Terri to the wonderful world of travel. To this union of marriage Sonny inherited a son, Monty Jenkins, who called him “Pops.” Sonny loved to play cards and would often get into some serious “Dad” playing with his brother-in-law, Mike Woodson. Their tournament would last from sun up to sun down playing for the trophy. He was an all-time family man who cherished good ole’ family gatherings. The traveling never stopped and there was nowhere or place that he couldn’t take you to, could always route you a direction on the map. One thing for sure, Sonny was rooted and grounded in the Lord, and in his heart, The Honorable Pastor David W. Green Sr., became his pastor. Sonny went home to be with the Lord on the fourth day of August, 2020 at 1:35 a.m. Sonny was preceded in death by his loving parents and a brother, Lenoirs Golden. He leaves cherished memories with six brothers; Leslie Harlan Jr. (Ethel), Ernest Harlan, Floyd Harlan (Regina), Bobby Golden (Bobbie), Ricky Harlan (Sophia) and Joe Harlan; six sisters, Katie Harris (Johnny), Dorothy Brooks, Catherine Maclin, Johnnie Pope (Cornell), Patricia Manuel (Gary) and Sherry Moorman (Christopher); three sons, Thomas “Monty” Jenkins (Trina), Henry Harlan and Cameron Williams; a daughter, Ericka Harlan (Greg); four grandchildren, Dajon McCallister, Davion McCallister, Je’Mani Jenkins and Cheyenne Jenkins; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
