Herb was born on Groundhogs Day, February 2, 1968, in Indianapolis, IN. The son of Paul and Donna Petrotta.
Herb was a 1986 graduate of North Central High School and attended Ball State University.
Herb is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 17 years, Andrea Hollis-Petrotta, whom he affectionately called “Dre”. Herb and Dre met in 2003 while both on vacation at Fort Myers Beach. They became engaged in January 2007 at their favorite restaurant, Sahm’s, surrounded by family and friends. The wedding took place later that year on October 27, at Hillcrest Country Club.
Together they shared several dogs, with their current pups being Jeter and Lou.
Other survivors include his mother, Donna Petrotta, sister, Maria (Victor) Bond, daughter Autumn McNeely, grandsons Caleb and Scottie Hylton, niece Teresa (Sam) Bond Starnes, nephew Trevor Bond and mother-in-law, Nancy Hollis, sister-in-law Jennifer (Charles) Keys, brother-in-law Joel (Erika) Hollis.
He was in the food and beverage industry his entire career and was previously employed at Hillcrest Country Club and at the Conrad Hilton.
While employed with Hilton, he was fortunate enough to be able to spend several winters in Maui. It was at this time that Herb discovered his love for Hawaiian shirts. Herb went on many adventures during his time in Maui, where he developed lifelong friendships.
Herb’s favorite pastimes included fishing, golfing and grilling out. He loved to fish in Maui, Northern Ohio with friends, and especially in the pond behind his house.
A well-known Herb-ism was his quote while golfing: “Never gonna make it if you don’t get to the hole.”
His favorite teams to follow were the NY Yankees, Notre Dame Football and the Indianapolis Colts.
If you knew Herb, you knew he was the epitome of the phrase “Life of the party”. He didn’t know a stranger and adored each and every one of his friends.
Herb and Andrea were known for their big Memorial Day and 4th of July celebrations. His Memorial Day weekend would start off for many years attending the Indy 500 with his friends. On Monday, he and Andrea would host their annual party with their infamous Jell-O shots. Herb would make a toast at some point in the day to those they had lost, both military and friends. On 4th of July, he would light a BIG firework show on the pond.
Herb was the best host as he opened his home to many friends and roommates. He loved to host poker nights and fantasy leagues. At draft time, the Petrotta’s house was dubbed “The Facility”. Draft weekends were his favorite time, where he hosted Fantasy Football and Baseball drafts. During March Madness, you could always find brackets trifolded in his back pocket accompanied by a yellow highlighter at all times.
Herb enjoyed most sports and loved to watch football at Sahm’s during the season. He also loved to decorate the living room at Christmas time, especially late at night, with lights and his Nonna’s ceramic tree.
Preceding Herb in death are his father, Paul Petrotta, father-in-law, David Hollis, nephew, Hayden Keys, and pups Abbie, Max, Ace, and Yankee.
