

Jack H. Rogers passed away peacefully on August 1, with his wife Shirley and family by his side.
Jack was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Howard and Dorothy Rogers. He grew up in Irvington, attended Howe High School and graduated in 1951. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from DePauw University class of 1955 where he lettered in baseball and football. He then entered the United States Air Force and went to Preflight school at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, TX. He received his wings and was stationed worldwide flying B29’s which led to his lifelong interest and passion for flying.
While based in Amarillo, Tx, he met the love his life Shirley N. Elliott and they were married in 1959.
He started IU Bloomington School of Law in 1958 where he and Shirley resided until he graduated in 1961. From there, he moved to Indianapolis where he joined the law firm of Roberts and Ryder and where they raised their two sons. He was a lifelong member of Faith Missionary Church and was a respected elder and Sunday school teacher.
Jack excelled in practicing labor and employment law while at Roberts, Ryder, Rogers and Scism. In 1986 they merged with Barnes and Thornburg where he was the head of the labor department and Senior Partner until he retired in 2000.
He received a lifetime achievement award from Indiana Bar Association for 50 years of practicing law.
While he was very proud of his accomplishments as a lawyer, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his 4 grandchildren. They were his pride and joy, and he was their biggest supporter in all their endeavors.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Shirley N. (Elliott) and two sons, Bradley J. Rogers (Amy) and Clark H. Rogers (Julie) and 4 grandchildren Allie, Jack, Madison and Jordan and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208 at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8th at with a Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service with full military funeral honors will take place immediately after the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church and Samaritan’s Purse.
