Jerri Lynn Foster

Jerri Lynn (Reed) Foster, beloved wife, mother and grandmother of Fishers, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018 in the presence of her family at the age of 65. She was a 1970 graduate from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. She earned her university degree in radiologic technology at Methodist Hospital and IUPUI.

In 1974, she married her high school sweetheart, Steve Foster. They were best friends and life companions for nearly 44 years. She met Steve in 7th grade and they became friends. In high school they fell in love and began a life together where their love continued to grow. Together, they often took the "road less traveled" which enhanced their love and commitment to each other. Although she was weak, she gained enough strength to utter her last words to her devoted husband and life partner, "I love you."

Her compassion for others led to a career in health care for over 40 years where she served patients at Methodist Children's Pavilion, the Methodist Breast Center, Riverview Woman's Center (where she was director of radiology) and Barrington Health Center. Jerri was active in mission work including the Indiana Women's Prison, Ambassadors for Children, the Homeless Initiative Program and Holy Family Shelter. Her love and passion for helping others took her to Mexico, Cuba, Grenada, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda where she worked in schools and orphanages.

She was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Cross in Indianapolis. She had a special devotion to St. Teresa of Calcutta and serving the poor and imprisoned. Her spirituality was rooted in faithfulness to the rosary and the Blessed Virgin Mother. She volunteered at Eucharistic Adoration Chapel as a regular adorer at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Fishers, Indiana. When people were troubled, she reminded them, "Go forward in faith."

Her adventurous spirit and zeal for life took her all around the world. She carried special memories of her experiences on safari and gorilla trekking in Africa. She hiked the rain forests of Costa Rica. She also lived in the West Indies where she loved the island life and substituted at the International School of Grenada and performed as a standardize patient at St. George's School of Medicine. While in Grenada, she enjoyed the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister of Grenada, lunch with the with the President of Guyana's wife and attend embassy events.

She loved being a grandma and planning activities around the holidays including coloring Easter Eggs, baking Christmas cookies and organizing campfires with her grandson, Jack, and his neighborhood friends. She loved attending her grandson's school events. She was especially proud to welcome a girl into the family when her first granddaughter, Zion, was born two and a half months ago. Her first words to Zion were, "Come here pumpkin!" She was happiest when she could spend time with her grandchildren.

Her hobbies were cooking, tending her flower garden, watching old movies, reading classic novels and making jewelry. She also loved watching thriller, suspense and forensic TV.

One of her most endearing relationships was with her brother Mark. She loved teasing him as a child and looked up to him as an adult for his character and quiet strength.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Foster, sons, Nicholas Foster (Sara), Scott Foster and Fernando Osorno Plaza, grandchildren, Jackson Foster and Zion Foster-Knipp, brother, Mark Reed (Debbie), sister-in law, Laura Alexander, brother-in-law, Jim Foster (Barb), and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208 on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM with a Memory Celebration beginning at 7:00 PM.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, last respects will be held at Bishop Chartrand Chapel at Marian University (Marian Hall), 3200 Cold Spring Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222 beginning at 11:00 AM with a funeral mass starting at noon. Interment will immediately follow mass at Crown Hill Cemetery.
