Jessie Ruth Brown

Jessie Ruth Brown peacefully passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at her home. We celebrate her 89 years of life well lived. Jessie was born December 28 1933 to Willie and Augusta(White) Gray in Jackson, Tennessee. The family relocated to Indianapolis circa 1940 and were blessed to rear 8 children.

Jessie attended school 42 and graduated from Crispus Attucks, class of 1951. An avid lover of jazz, travel, reading, sewing, and family time. Jessie retired from the Federal Government after 36 years of service and numerous awards.

Jessie married Andrew P Brown, Jr in 1960 and through that union reared their only child, Geary. Jessie was a true embodiment of the Proverbs 31 Woman; loyal to her family’s wellbeing, an active member of Phillips Temple CME Church, a nurturing mother, and a loving wife for 59 years.

Jessie was preceded to Heaven by her husband, her mother, her father, and five siblings; Geneva Gray, Bertha Beasley, Augusta “Pete” Rush, Clyde Gray, and Lewis Gray. Jessie is survived by her son Geary (Kim), granddaughter Shelby, sister Anita (Rail) White, brother John “Yank” (Mary Sue) Gray, and extended family.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Traditions At North Willow (Jessie’s home) and to AccentCare Hospice for their unwavering commitment to senior care excellence.

Jessie’s cremains will be committed to the family space at Crown Hill Cemetery, on Dec 1, 2023, at 11 A.M. in the Abbey Cremation Memorial Garden. In Lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Phillips Temple CME Church, Indianapolis, Indiana in memory of Jessie Ruth Brown.
