A long name for a little woman who gave her amazing love to all her family and friends. She was 94 years young and enjoyed every day of her life on earth. She chose to be with the Lord on Friday, October 8, 2021, but her love and memory lives on in the hearts of each person she left behind, so they may carry on her inspiration.
Jessie was born in Indianapolis on May 29, 1927. She was the thirteenth child born to Scott and Emma Dickerson. Jessie attended School 48 and then Shortridge High School. She met the love of her life, Eugene “Skinny” Davis, when she was 14. Sparks must have sizzled, because they were married on August 10, 1943. Their love blossomed and on December 12, 1943, their daughter, Bonnie Davis was born. On Mother’s Day, May 8, 1948, Jessie gave birth to Jimmie Ray Davis. Jessie still had so much love to give, that for four years she raised Donna and Tommy Pfaffman. Skinny and Jessie then adopted Stacy Davis-Mata and now her family was complete.
Once the kids were in high school, Jessie became a Bus Driver for Washington Township Schools. She was a blessing of joy to her riders and showered the children with love for 31 years.
Jessie’s husband, Skinny, died December 28, 1988 and she was all alone.
The Lord was watching over her because she reconnected with an old friend, Charlie Scruggs, and they were soon married. They had a wonderful life for many years until Charlie died. After that she focused on her family that was growing yearly. To date she has 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, who will all miss her beautiful and loving smile.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 12:00 at the Crown Hill Funeral Building on 38th Street. A visitation will start at 10:30 before the service. Pastor Danny McAdams from Life Tabernacle Church will be officiating. A Family attended Burial will follow at the Crown Hill cemetery.
