

Joan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who placed family at the center of her life. She is survived by her three children: Lisa (Dennis) Davis, Keith (Lynn) Adams, and Jeri Adams. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Scott (Laura) Davis, Kyle (Corie) Adams, Abby Davis, Kelsey (Bret) High, Kathryn (Brad) Ziegler, and Erika Richardson-Adams (Jacob Rhoad), as well as eight great-grandchildren and her sister, Sharon David, sister-in- law Karen Stumph, and four nephews: Fred (Debi), Frank, John (Cindy), and Tim (Carrie). She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Irene Stumph; her twin brother, John Stumph; and her grandson, Stephen Davis.
Joan graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1954. She earned both her Bachelor’s degree in 1971 and her Master’s degree in 1974 from Indiana Central University. She spent her career with Indianapolis Public Schools, teaching at School 62 and later retired from School 82.
She enjoyed travel abroad with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories. Joan also had a lifelong love for animals especially her three community cats.
Joan was a life time member of Christ Church Cathedral and gave her time through Methodist Hospital Task Core, WINS Score, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a precinct committeewoman. Her life reflected a steady commitment to faith, service, and community.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s honor to FACE Animal Clinic, 1505 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46201, or the Veterinary Care Fund at Brookville Road Animal Hospital, 8049 Brookville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46239.
Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, Gothic Chapel, located at 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46208, on January 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The funeral service will follow at the same location at 11:00 am on January 17, 2026.
There will be a light lunch served following the graveside service at the Gothic Chapel.
