Joe was my American Hero. Today a man died and the world died with him. He lived and faced battles in life that equaled 10 men. He was an amazing man of whom I am proud to have known. He was my literacy student for many years and surpassed all my expectations of him. He went from a 1st grade level of reading at age 38 when I met him to be named Indy Read's Student of the Year more than once. He was determined, humble, smart, kind-hearted, and possessed grit and humility. The world has lost a shining star, but Heaven is much richer. Joe was a man of faith and has earned his seat at the right hand side of Jesus. His only barrier was he could not read. He changed that to conquer accomplishments very few people reach. I am proud to have called him friend, and Heaven is much shinier with his presence.

I remember Joe Wesley as an humble young man and a dear friend. He gave himself to God as a teenager and was very expressive during praise time. He will be missed although I hadn’t been in contact with him for awhile. I all but considered him as a son but knew he had a devoted father.
Sleep on and take your rest friend “ son” and all around good man!
