

75, of Indianapolis departed this life Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his home. He was born July 11, 1936 in Indianapolis to John F. and Helen (Roessler) Land, Sr. John was a 1954 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 1960 graduate of Butler University, earning his degree in pharmacy. He worked for McSoley Pharmacy for 22 years, and eventually retired from CVS. He served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves in the 60’s. John and Janice Wickens of Greensburg married on May 12, 1962; they were looking forward to their upcoming 50th anniversary.
John was a God-loving, simple man… He was a dedicated and active member of Christ the King Catholic Church and had previously been a member of St. Pius X. He was also a member of St. Pius X Council of the Knights of Columbus.
John enjoyed bird watching, and was also an enthusiastic train “buff”. He enjoyed trains of all sorts, as well as studying the history of American railroads. He loved his adventures on trains with his wife and, over the years, they took many long excursions out west to visit both their son in Colorado and daughter in Montana.
John is survived by his wife Janice; his daughter Karen Land; his son David Land-Closson and wife Linda; his grandsons Ivan and Anthony Land-Closson; and his sister Dorothy Land. His cousin, Fr. Joseph Rautenburg, was a special spiritual friend.
Visitation for John will be from 4 – 7 PM Thursday, March 8th in Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM Friday, March 9th in St. Pius X Catholic Church with additional calling there beginning at 9:00AM. Burial will be Saturday, March 10th at St. Mary Cemetery in Greensburg, IN at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
