

John Wm. Rothfuss, 90, born March 19, 1922 in Philadelphia PA to the late John and Elizabeth Rothfuss (Schaefer), passed away Jan 11, 2013 surrounded by family members at his apartment in Rosegate Assisted Living. Shortly after beginning his career at RCA in 1941 at the Camden NJ plant he received an appointment to the Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island. Upon graduation John was commissioned as an ensign in the US Navy where he served as a Navigator aboard attack cargo ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII. After the war he returned to RCA only to be recalled to the Navy a few short years later for the Korean War. Back at RCA for a third time he transferred to the Cambridge Ohio plant, 4 years later to the Bloomington Indiana plant, and 3 years later to the Rockville Road and Sherman Drive plants in Indianapolis. John retired as a Quality Manager after 42 years.
He married Helen Viola Herngren from Brooklyn NY on March 26, 1949. They had 3 children. In 1984 John and Helen retired to Pinellas Park Florida where they remained for 26 years before moving back to Indianapolis to be near family. John was preceded in death by his wife Helen of 61 years and is survived by daughter Helen Rothfuss of Indianapolis; daughter Cathy (Mike) Russell of College Station TX; son Paul Rothfuss (Shawn) of Indianapolis; granddaughters Amanda Russell of Dallas and Madeline Russell of Plano TX. Visitation is January 21, 2:00-6:00 pm, followed by a short memorial service at 6:00 at Little and Sons Indianapolis. Inurnment will be at Curlew Hills in Palm Harbor Florida in February.
