Joseph Irving

Mr. Joseph Irving was the son of Mattie Rose. He was born May 14, 1949, in Buckingham County, VA. He departed this life on November 15, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. His mother Mattie Rose and his son, Dushan Irving preceded him in death.

Joseph graduated from Garfield High School in Garfield, NJ. He ran track, after graduation he attended McCook Junior College in McCook, Nebraska on a track scholarship. He attended McCook for 2 and half years.

He served in the US Navy. He entered active-duty March 29, 1972. He was discharged March 28, 1976.

He married Joan Bradley in December 1976 in Paterson NJ. Two children were born of this marriage: Chakira Irving and Dushan Irving.

He worked as a truck driver and worked in a chemical factory while living in New Jersey. In January 1978, he relocated to Indianapolis, IN. He was hired at General Motors, where he assembled parts. He retired in August 2008.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing his wife of 46 years, Joan Irving, his daughter Chakira Irving of Indianapolis, IN. Three grandchildren; Kalija Irving, Marylue Irving and MaRiley Irving of New Mexico. One sister, Survanna and her three children of Roanoke, VA.

He also leaves a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
