For 42 years, Joe worked at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. As a process technician and manager, Joe earned several awards for improving Lilly’s quality control. His commitment, diligence, and integrity left a lasting impact. His work ethic reflected his character: steady, dependable, and devoted.
Outside of work, Joe embraced many passions, including building model airplanes and rockets, enjoying the outdoors, and listening to music—especially Pink Floyd. His greatest happiness, however, came from time spent with his beloved wife and family. A devoted father, he was always present to support his children in all of their endeavors. For more than 30 years, Joe and Barb made their home in Clayton, where he took pride in caring for their house and could often be found tinkering in the garage. He also cherished watching sports and movies with Barb and making memories with his grandchildren.
Joe was gifted with a quick wit, and he laughed as easily as he made others laugh. He was a constant source of guidance-always affirming and encouraging others-and offering unconditional love, exemplified in his tireless devotion as a husband, father, and grandfather.
A devout Catholic, Joe’s faith guided him in every season of his life. His quiet strength and unwavering belief served as a guiding light, and he leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, James and Rita (Hodel) Worden as well as his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Barbara Alyce Worden. They shared 56 years of love and companionship. His grandson, Gabriel Stuart Dickey precedes him, also.
He is survived by his devoted children, Laurie (James) Filsinger, Christopher Worden, and Lisa (Phil) Neville. He is also survived by grandchildren Katy Filsinger, Alyssa Dickey, Remi Davis, Michelle (Dakota) Wiseman, PJ, Shelby and Raelin Neville all who affectionately referred to him as Pakka. They were the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved siblings. Steve (Terry) Worden, Jean Thompson, Tom (D’Lee) Worden, Jimmy (Chris) Worden and Danny (Laurelle) Worden. He is also survived by his loyal dog, Sosa.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Sandy McQueen of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Her weekly visits allowed Joe to stay connected to his home parish.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Joe’s granddaughter, Shelby Neville. Without asking, she put her life on hold to move closer so that she could assist in his daily care. The family also wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice as their visits allowed him to remain in his home.
To honor Joe’s legacy and spirit, the family asks that you please contribute to the Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at https://give.myiu.org/iu-indianapolis/I380010041.html
or The Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/?form=FUNXNDBNWRP
