

She passed on January 8, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father Milton B. Thacker
and mother Selena M. Thacker.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years Lieutenant
Colonel (Retired) William V. Anderson and brother Stephen C. Thacker and his wife Jody
(Todd) Thacker and numerous cousins and their spouses and children.
Karin attended High School in Gross Pointe, Michigan and upon graduation enrolled at North Central Michigan College in Petosky, Michigan. After a year she transferred to San Diego State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1972.
Upon graduation she accepted a position as Operating Room Registered Nurse at
L.A. County Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She served there until 1978 when
she entered the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps. Her first assignment
was to Letterman Army Medical Center at the Presidio of San Francisco, California where
she met her husband William. They were married at the Post Chapel on March 13, 1982.
Karin left active duty in the U.S. Army in 1982, but spent another eleven years in the
U.S. Army Reserves culminating at the 337th General Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana
where she obtained the rank of Major. Other highlights of Karin's nursing career included
jobs at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California, Chippenham Medical Center
in Richmond, Virginia, Veterans Administration Hospital, Richmond, Virginia and the
Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Karin's
nursing career spanned a total of 42 years. Karin was an animal lover of all species.
She was instrumental in spaying or neutering over 500 kittens, cats, puppies and dogs
since 1986 and getting them placed in forever homes. Karin enjoyed sewing, crafts and
volunteering at Petco. Any donations in her memory should be made to any local
animal shelters.
A Celebration of Life service will be planned for a later date.
