Kevin Michael Corydon, age 74, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, with his devoted wife of 54 years, Lynne, by his side. Born on August 9, 1950, Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, George Earnest and Mary Cecilia, and his son, Martin Andrew. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Kathleen, his brothers, Dennis Thomas (Suzie) and James Martin, his children Bridget Kathleen (Tod), Mary Catherine (Michael), and Michael Moran (Priya). Kevin was also a proud grandfather to Caleb Michael, Logan Forest, Colin Andrew, Nathan Corydon, and Victoria Rose.
Kevin dedicated his life to service, beginning with his role as a Military Police Officer in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he joined the Indianapolis Police Department, where he served with distinction, first as a patrolman, working his way up to a detective in the Burglary and Larceny Unit and becoming a detective in the newly established Domestic Violence Unit. He retired in 2002 after a career well spent serving others.
In retirement, Kevin embraced volunteer work at St. Monica Catholic Church. He was very active in the RCIA program, Small Church Community, CRHP, and was a Eucharist Minister to home-bound parishioners. His commitment to helping others continued as he co-founded a Sister Parish ministry with St. James the Apostle parish in Lepaterique, Honduras. This ministry forged a meaningful partnership focusing on medical assistance and fostering a relationship that has thrived for two decades. He visited Lepaterique 20 times and made some lasting, personal relationships. It didn't matter what language his stories were being told in, they were as captivating as ever due to his authentic nature and passion for the individuals he interacted with.
Kevin's family fondly remembers his playful spirit, his storytelling, and the life lessons he imparted. He taught his children the value of unconditional love and created lasting memories. Searching out that perfect Christmas tree was a favorite activity. His children would oftentimes be scattered throughout the field to mark trees with potential, while he decided on the perfect one. He was the ultimate sports fan and did his best to learn about everything his children and grandchildren were involved in from cheerleading, gymnastics, and dance to softball, baseball, basketball (even coaching), soccer, swimming, and football; he was there for it all. He clocked many hours on the interstate to visit his out of state children and grandchildren and loved exploring these areas with his family.
Kevin’s legacy of love, service, and dedication to family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 from 11AM to 1PM at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228. A Mass will follow at 1PM.
Kevin will be entombed at Calvary Cemetery.
