Nécrologie de Leroy Pollard
LEROY POLLARD was born September 13, 1939 to his loving parents, Ethel {Mabry} Pollard and Bill Pollard, in Herndon, Kentucky. LEROY attended the public schools and Herndon, Kentucky for his early education. He was a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. LEROY accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Asia Baptist Church in Herndon, Kentucky. LEROY had a love for baseball at an early age. He even attended a baseball camp, on a professional level, with an invitation to try out for the St. Louis Negro League team. Unfortunately an injury sidelined his baseball career. He moved on to pursue other interests, including a desire to drive the truck. LEROY moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, eventually gaining employment at Balkamp. He worked there for 40 dedicated years, with 37 of those years in his desired role as a truck driver. This allowed him to travel across the United States and ignite a desire to show his family everything he was able to see and experience on the road. “Roy”, as he was fondly known as, retired in 2005. LEROY joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church when he relocated to Indianapolis. He served as a faithful member in various roles including: Usher Board #2, Trustee Board and the Brotherhood. LEROY’s initial marriage resulted in the birth of one daughter, Kerra. Leroy later found the love of his life when he met Mary Louise Herring. They were married on June 22, 1968, he was a devoted husband until her untimely death in 2016. They enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with family. Leroy was a kind, genuine and gentle man who still enjoyed baseball and cooking. He also enjoyed the monthly lunch and breakfast outings with his trucker friends, until his health began to fail. LEROY POLLARD departed this life on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. We were blessed to be able to be a part of his life that span for 81 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pollard; mother, Ethel Pollard; father, Bill Pollard: a grandson, Marlon Herring; and sisters, Lillie Pollard and Birdie Watkins.
