Lois Blanche Fishback Shobe, the second child of the late Vernon Fishback and Lois Louise Greer Fishback was born Sunday, September 6, 1936. Lois is from the Greek λωιων, meaning most desirable. She was named after her mother, but to most people, she was known as Blanche. At the age of ten, she accepted Christ as savoir. On Monday, September 1, 1947, Lois was baptized at Mt. Olla Baptist
Church of Smiths Grove, KY under the Rev. W. M. Bradley.
Blanche attended Consolidated Elementary School of Bowling Green. In 1955 she graduated from High Street High School in Bowling Green, KY. On November 21, 1956, she married Gilbert Shobe and moved to Indianapolis, IN. They were married for 63 years.
Upon locating to Indianapolis, she transferred her membership to the Carter’s Memorial Baptist Church under the late Rev. Estee Adam. This lady of God had many talents including singing. She had a beautiful voice which blessed many. In 1961 Lois and Gilbert were given a son, Phillip L. Shobe.
With Lois’ golden voice she taught her son old songs of the saints; like ‘I Stepped in the Water One Day’, ‘O Mary, Don’t You Weep’, ‘He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands’. Besides teaching songs to her son, she also served as a musician for several years at Carter Memorial Baptist Church.
Blanche’s employment included working at the Craig Drug Store and LS Ayers Department Store. She also enjoyed cooking meals for others which many found delicious. Fulfilling a dream in 1985, she graduated from the Beauty School.
Preceding her into eternity were parents, Lois and Vernon Fishback, sister Celester Fishback Bowman,
husband Gilbert L. Shobe, brothers Collins Starks and James Fishback, and stepmother Bessie Fishback Starks. At the age of 87, Lois went home to be with the Lord. Being such a good friend to so many, she will be missed.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory her son: Rev. Dr. Phillip L. Shobe (Shirley); grandsons Kamil L. Shobe (LaTasha), Markus J. Shobe (Danielle); great grandchildren Zaria Shobe, Titus Shobe, Atlas Shobe, Taylor Killebrew; brother Rev. Warner Fishback (C. J.); sisters Marilyn Shobe, Jackie Johnson; sister-in- laws; Ruth Shobe, Mary Fishback and Bettie Turner, with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
