Nécrologie de Luke Allen Hale
Luke Allen Hale, 54, of Indianapolis, left this world knowing that the greatest band ever is the Beatles and that Paul McCartney deserves the same respect as Mozart. After all, any living legend that helps you propose to your girlfriend, has to be the best. A long confirmed bachelor, Luke changed his mind quickly, when Michaela, the love of his life, chased him until he caught her. Luke was brilliant, possessed a witty sense of humor, multi-talented, and a voracious reader. A lover of history, Luke was passionate about the life and politics of Lincoln, Kennedy, and had a thirst for knowledge about current events. Luke thought that Lost and Breaking Bad were just about the best writing on television, and couldn't wait for the newest J. J. Abrams offering. A graduate of Howe High School, Indianapolis, and Indiana University, double majoring in TeleCom and Theatre, Luke won awards for both his media and acting endeavors. On the stage, some of his favorite roles included; Hysterium and Pseudelous in A Funny Thing; Lt. Daniel Kaffee in A Few Good Men; John the Baptist/Judas in Godspell; and Reverend Hale and Reverend Parris in The Crucible. While in high school, he participated in choir, marching band, gymnastics, and was a city swim champion. Even though Luke was a man of simple tastes, he felt that any salad that featured “meat," ie tuna salad, chicken salad, or ham salad, was "an abomination in the sight of God." And, he believed that there was a conspiracy in the cheese cracker world. Just try to find a box of Better Cheddars at the grocery store. During his college days, Luke and his friend and best man, Jeff Wildridge, wowed audiences, but mostly themselves, as they played guitar and sang favorites of the 60’s and 70’s in their duo, The Cheaters. If you want to know what the name of the duo meant, ask his wife. Luke was a freelance video production director, producer, and editor. For many years he worked for the production company, The Sanders Group, and loved it there. Luke also freelanced at the Bankers Life Field House as an EVS Operator for the Pacers, the Fever, as well as computer operator for concerts and events. He made it no secret that if he never saw another basketball game, it would be ok by him. In addition to working at Bankers Life, Luke would occasionally work for the Indianapolis Colts. Luke was truly one that kept up-to-date with all things in the technology world, especially Apple products. His latest passion was discovering the world of Virtual Reality. While battling the rare cancer, myxoid liposarcoma, Luke would remark, that “Even with all of this, I’m still the luckiest guy I know.” He knew that many people go through similar trials, but don't have the right people beside them. Through all the treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays, his outgoing personality, and love of life, made those taking care of him, fall in love with him. Luke was kind, wise, and generous; a true gentleman and scholar. Luke was the son of the late Robert and Willa Hale. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Michaela Ann (Linn); sister, Vicky Sue Lauber, and husband Dan, Osgood, IN; father-in-law, who he called “Dad,” David M. Linn, Sr., Frostburg, MD; brother-in-law, David M. Linn, Jr. and wife Cindy, Portage, MI, nephew David M. Linn III, Lockport, NY; niece, Kelsey Linn, Scottsdale, AZ; his extended Linn family; the loving Hurst family including his beloved aunts Marty and Beryl, and his band of fun loving cousins, who were a constant source of support, humor, and love throughout his life. A Celebration of Luke’s life will be held Monday, March 19, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Little & Sons Funeral Home-Indianapolis, 4901 E. Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46237. A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, March 18, from 4 until 9 PM at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held in Frostburg, MD at a date to be determined. His family would like to extend their utmost gratitude for the nursing staff at IU Health Methodist, where Luke was a patient for over two months. The nurses, doctors, and the supporting staff, quickly became more than caregivers, they became family. We are forever grateful. Loving gratitude is also given to the nurses and staff at the St. Franciscan Hospice House for their care and surrounding him and his wife with love as he left this world. As Luke would say to the nurses, "You are doing God's work." And, truly, they are. One of Luke's statements to a visitor while at hospice was, "Experiences matter more than possessions." What a true statement. So, please, go and enjoy wonderful experiences in this life. To quote Luke's favorite Beatles song and album, "There will be no sorrow. Let it be." In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the following: The Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9899 Main Street, Suite 204, Damascus, MD 20872, curesarcoma.org; or Mountain Ridge High School Historical Research Methods, 100 Dr. Grasmick Lane, Frostburg, MD 21532
