Marcia Manley Stone, 89, peacefully entered God’s eternal kingdom on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Hooverwood Living, Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on February 12, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Anthony and Martha Manley who predeceased her. Marcia proudly shared her birthday with Abraham Lincoln … a fact she frequently shared.
Marcia graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and Indiana University where she received a golf scholarship. She spent her entire career as a recreational therapist in the mental health and elder care fields providing dedicated kindness and patience to those, she served at the former Central State Hospital and Lakeview Retirement Center.
She was an avid golfer and a gifted bowler in her youth, participating in many city and state tournaments. Marcia enjoyed gardening maintaining a meticulous lawn and flower beds.
Throughout her life, Marcia was the quintessential “church lady” at Christ Church Cathedral. Her most meaningful and rewarding ministry was Sunday school in which she taught hundreds of children for decades. While teaching, she also served on the Altar Guild. Upon retirement from teaching, Marcia became a leader of the Saint Theresa’s Guild serving the sick and shut-ins of the parish. She lived her deep faith through compassionate words and deeds.
Marcia is predeceased by her beloved husband, William Carl Stone. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Stiles, Deanna Short, and Deborah Eickholtz as well as her stepchildren, Melissa Stone Hickman, William (Eric) Stone, Rebecca Stone Prather, and Ronald Stone (Beth Stone). She also is survived by granddaughter Courtney Short-Gammon and brother Douglas M. Manley (Lynn Manley).
A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Christ Church Cathedral on Monument Circle in Indianapolis followed by one of Marcia’s favorite gatherings, a Coffee Hour in the parish hall for all. A private internment with family will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery later in the day.
The family thanks Joanne Vestal and the staff at Hooverwood Living for their thoughtful and tender care during the final months of Marcia’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cathedral Women at Christ Church for their grant ministry to the Indianapolis community.
