97, of Indianapolis, passed away on July 22, 2011. Margaret or “Babe” as she was lovingly known by her family was born on July 10, 1914 to Irish immigrant parents Thomas and Mary Dunne. Margaret just celebrated her 97th birthday with her family but only admitted to being “59 years old at the most.” Margaret was 100% Irish and enjoyed fun times and activities. Two beers was her limit, thus the nickname “two beer Babe” given to her by family. Margaret loved dancing, bridge, euchre, bowling and travel with her family and friends. Margaret graduated from Manuel High School and Indianapolis LPN School. Margaret was 54 years old when she left LPN School as a top student. Margaret was employed by William H. Block Co. during the depression and used her pay to help feed her family during tough times. She was a Nurse’s Aide at Community Hospital East from its inception in the 1950’s and continued her career there as a LPN until her retirement. After her retirement, Margaret worked part-time with Kelly Nursing Service well into her 70’s. Margaret’s deep Roman Catholic faith was a focus of her life. She was a very active member of Little Flower Catholic Church on the eastside and participated in many activities thru the years. St. Jude was Margaret’s favorite saint and relied on him to get her thru difficult times in her life. Margaret was preceded in death by her late husband Bernard Shepard and second husband Norman Gold, daughter Kathleen (Jack) Wildy and siblings Thomas, Gertrude and Hermadine Dunne. Margaret is survived by Peggy (Jimmie) Kennedy, Marilyn (Bernard) Fillenworth, Bernard (Rosie) Shepard and John (Linda) Shepard, brother John Dunne of Melbourne, FL, cousin, Kathy (Steve) Noone, of Indianapolis, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday July 26, 10:00 am in Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 25, from 3 – 7 pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to Little Flower Catholic Church or Scecina High School. Margaret's family would like to thank the nurses, caregivers and staff of Hooverwood Home for their loving care and friendship extended to our Mother during the last several years. In addition, thanks to the wonderful staff of St. Vincent Hospice for their care and support. Condolences may be offered at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com.
