Mark J. Kirkpatrick, age 68, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Monday September 15, 2025. Mark was the third son and sixth child of the late Robert S. Kirkpatrick, Sr. and Patrica T. (Wright) Kirkpatrick.
Mark attended Chatard High school and played on the football team as a running back and receiver. After high school, he proudly volunteered to serve his country in the US Army during the Cold War period. He was first stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky and then was deployed overseas to Wiesbaden Army Base in Germany. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in residential housing construction. As a third-generation carpenter, he loved working with his hands, building homes, overseeing the trades and watching a home site evolve from a muddy field to a beautiful, finely crafted home. Later in his business career, he started Multiple Home Improvement (MHI), a successful construction management company that concentrated on rehabbing and updating older apartment communities throughout Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.
Mark sold his business and retired in 2013 to do what he most loved: traveling and spending precious time with his children and grandkids. While it’s never been officially confirmed, Mark’s family believes he holds the world record for visiting Walt Disney World the most times ever. He never lost the thrill of riding Dumbo, the Flying Elephant or getting terrified in the Haunted Mansion or enjoying the peace and charm of It’s a Small World…Disney was his Happy Place, and it simply never got old for him.
Mark’s superpower was his kindness and his gentle soul; his Achilles’ heel was his kindness and gentle soul. His generosity towards his family and friends had no bounds or limitations. He had a unique ability to make lifelong friendships primarily because of his trusting. unassuming nature, strangers immediately felt his warmth and his unpretentiousness. He lived a humble, yet impactful life, he made people laugh and could brighten the darkest day by his humor and smile.
Mark is survived by his four children: Sean Marks (Jodie), Chauncey Wunder (Billy), Rachel Priller (Dylan) and Mark, Jr. (Kelly). He also leaves behind six grandchildren who loved him dearly: Riley and Zachary Marks, Liam and Ava Wunder, Chloe and Rowan Kirkpatrick. And finally, Mark leaves behind his loving siblings: Deborah Beatty, Rob Kirkpatrick (Sue), Kevin Kirkpatrick (Paula), Kyle Ritchey (Jess), Patricia Hickerson (Andy) and Margaret Nowicki (Jerry).
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Northside Events & Social Club (formerly the Knights of Columbus) at 2100 East 71st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220.
And so dear brother, father, grandfather and friend, your traveling days are now over but your legacy remains as strong as ever through the eyes of your children and grandchildren. And while your death leaves a gigantic hole in all of our hearts, your memory will never be replaced or forgotten. You are now free to fly off to Never Neverland with Peter Pan or sail off to mysterious lands with the Pirates of the Caribbean…keep smiling dear brother, until we meet again; remember, Memento Mori.
