

Martin E. Ridley, Sr. passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at IU Methodist Hospital. Martin was a native and lifelong resident of Indianapolis. He was born on January 20, 1915, the third child and second son of Thomas H. Ridley, Sr. and Evelyn Hazelwood Ridley. He was a graduate and member of the first class at Crispus Attucks High School. He later attended Indiana University for two years.
Martin was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He worked for the U.S. Post Office and later the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He retired from the US Postal Service as a General Superintendent of the Mails. After his retirement, he went to work for the City of Indianapolis in charge of naming streets in new developments and sub divisions. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church and the Cosmo Knights Social Club.
Survivors include: daughter, Evelyn I. Ridley-Turner (spouse J. Richard Turner); son, Martin E. Ridley, Jr. (spouse Sheila A. Ridley); grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jason Turner and Adrienne M. And Stephanie M. Ridley; brother, Thomas H. Ridley, his dear friend and dinner companion of many years, Nancy Holliman Johnson and numerous nephews and nieces. He was pre-deceased by his older brother and sister Laurence H. Ridley, Sr. and Mildred L. Ridley Jacks.
