Mary Ann was born on January 30, 1943 to the late James and Delia (Murray) Heneghan.
Growing up in Indianapolis, Mary Ann attended grade school at Saint Phillip Neri
and high school at Saint Mary Academy. Here, she met some of her lifelong friends.
Mary Ann also attended Indiana Business School. She worked in keypunching, secretary
and caregiver roles, lastly with 18 years service with E. 10th United Methodist Church,
before retiring to Florida.
In 1960, Mary Ann met Fred Bennett, the absolute love of her life.
They married on April 30, 1963 and have 3 daughters together. Mary Ann and Fred embraced
an endearing marriage. Family, friends, colleagues and caregivers often described them as
being “so in love.” Mary Ann also fiercely loved and cherished her daughters and grandchildren,
while continuing to love and treasure her beloved siblings, extended family and dear friends.
Mary Ann remained devoted to her Catholic faith, making it an integral part of her life.
Mary Ann continued to make longtime friends, including late-in-life friends, who could have
easily been lifelong friends. Many touching and fun memories are being held close to the hearts
of a countless number of people. Mary Ann routinely touched and lifted up the lives of others
with a joyful smile, twinkling eyes, listening ears, encouraging words and entertaining humor. Mary Ann enjoyed a good laugh, and a good bargain.
Mary Ann forgave the digressions of others and was forgiven her digressions. Mary Ann
persevered through daunting challenges, with others at her side ready to reciprocate her
support and admire her efforts. Mary Ann lived, loved and was loved. Many are already missing
her and will always feel her everlasting love.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Fred Bennett, daughters, Kathleen Jo Bennett Peavey
(James), Mary Ann Bennett Whitney (Dave) and Julie Bennett Shaw (Jeff) and grandchildren,
Kyle Whitney (Heather), Amy Oreskovic (Seth Lankford), Ty Oreskovic (Amani Couture), Garrett
Shaw, Macy Whitney, Reese Whitney and Reagan Shaw.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved siblings,
sister Katherine Heneghan Hurst and brother James Heneghan Jr.
A visitation for Mary Ann will be held Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219. A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 5333 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219.
Per family's request, all guests are to wear masks and respect social distancing.
