Mary Kathryn Davis Taylor Blake, 87, died peacefully on March 16, 2025. She was born to Matthew, Jr., and Sarah J. Ragland Davis Gordon (both deceased) in Henderson, NC. Mary had one brother, Olandors Davis, Sr. (deceased) and one half-sister, Joyce Gordon, both from South Mills, NC.
Mary met and married James T. Taylor, Sr.(deceased), while both served in the U.S. Army, Ft. Hood, TX, and settled in Indianapolis, IN. During their 20 years together, they had four children: James Taylor, Jr.(deceased), Joann Taylor, Michael Taylor, and Nedra Taylor. She later shared a brief marital union with George Blake.
Mary retired with the U.S. Postal Service, totaling 30 years of government service. Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her life.
She accepted God as a child, and her dedication to her church was unwavering. When she moved to Indy with her new husband, she was initially a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. While briefly moving her membership, Mary attended Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Eastside Baptist Church, Church of the Living God, Temple 18, and returned to Immanuel Presbyterian Church for over 40 years of membership. Mary served as a Sunday school teacher, on Usher boards, and in her later years as an ordained Elder. While attending Immanuel Presbyterian Church, she met her spiritual daughter, Glenda Peyton. Glenda was a blessing to the family with visits, calls, texts, spiritual literature, prayers, and the status of the closing of Immanuel Presbyterian Church over the past 8 years during Mary's illness.
We are deeply grateful for the care and support provided by the many healthcare facilities and their dedicated staff during Mary's illness. Their compassion and professionalism made a significant difference in Mary's life.
There will be no viewing or services.
