Mary and our mom Kate, were friends while both were long time members of St. Pius X.  They died on the same day.  Now we all have two more angels watching over us.  God bless you and your family druing this difficult time.

Dear Connie, John, Bob, Patty and Mary Beth,

My sincere sympathy to you all and your families.  What a great lady your Mom was.  She welcomed us into the Sylvan Ridge neighborhood 45 years ago and we remained good friends even tho we both moved later. Mary Baker, Mary Collins and I helped each other through many years of trials and tribulations of raising children, marriage challenges, and big government.

For me, Aunt Mary’s stories were legendary and her story-telling will always be how I will remember her.  Here’s my favorite:  

It was 1964, a time of political upheaval and the British rock invasion.  My Aunt Mary, 44 years old (about), related how she especially disapproved of all those wild, inconsolable fourteen-year old teenage girls who screamed and cried uncontrollably while straining against security ropes that separated adoring fans from a beloved heart-throb who could never be heard above the crowd’s yelling.  The scenes were repeated daily on TV as one rock star after another toured everywhere it seemed.  Also at that time, Aunt Mary had volunteered to get Republicans elected to “straighten out the country.”  

Although a political enthusiast, Aunt Mary admitted she had initially hesitated to take the opportunity to greet the Republican Presidential candidate who was visiting Indianapolis.  “Why bother,” she said, “he’s just getting off the plane and into a car; won’t say anything.  What’s all the hubbub?”  But…she soon found herself four rows back in the crowd at the airport holding a big welcome sign.  Then she waited.   

“Suddenly the crowd hushed as we saw the candidate’s plane land,” Aunt Mary began, “and I could feel an intense electric shock build through the crowd as the candidate’s plane slowly approached the red carpet.  As the plane’s door opened” she went on, “the crowd began to cheer, then chant, then scream.  And here I was bellowing at the top of my lungs, waving my sign with tears running down my face, while blindly pushing my way all the way to the front straining the crowd-control ropes.  A big security guy kept yelling at me, “No further lady, stop, stop!” But as the candidate walked down the red carpet getting closer and closer and closer to where I stood, I suddenly jammed my sign into the hands of the security guy, ducked under the security ropes, and ran up to properly greet Barry Goldwater to Indianapolis.”  

Aunt Mary ended her story by saying, “I don’t know what made me do it, but I think I finally understand teenage girls.”  

With a prayer on my breath and a tear in my eye, I bid farewell to my Aunt Mary and offer my deepest condolences to my cousins.  But after all, heaven is laughing tonight.

To Mary Beth, Patty, John, Bob, Connie - I am so sorry to hear the news. What I remember most about your mother is her smile, same as in her photo, and how nice she was. You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May you find strength from all the good memories you have of Mary Collins to help you through this time of sorrow.

I remember Mary at so many of the Birthline Fashion Show and Luncheons, she always had such a beautiful smile!  Rest in peace, Mary.

May the peace of Christ that she is now enjoying also ease your way in the days ahead. She will remain in our prayers.

What a lovely lady...kind, gentle, humble and a very caring person.  
She will not be forgotten.  My prayers go out to her family and friends.
