Mary Jacquelin McClain “Jackie” peacefully passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Jackie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to William and Mary McClain. Jackie graduated from Crispus Attucks High School where she proudly embodied “Tiger” pride.
Known as Mary in the professional arena, “Jackie” began her career at Military Pay Operations with the Department of Army in Civil Service at Fort Benjamin Harrison 1966. In 1971, she left civil service to work at Western Electric, where she remained for 10 years. She later joined CIC Enterprise, where she served
for 4 years before returning to civil service in 1987 at Post Headquarters. Jackie was later transferred to Enlisted Records Evaluation Center (EREC) where she continued her service until retiring in 2013 after 29 years of meritorious federal service.
Jackie was a proud and faithful member of the City of Hope congregation, where she worshipped and served for many years. She was also an active volunteer in her community, participating in the school Literacy Program and working at election polls when called upon. Jackie’s sense of humor was very infectious-especially to her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom were convinced they were her favorite.
Jackie touched countless lives with her warm heart and genuine ability to connect with everyone she met. She seldom met a stranger and played an integral role in introducing new experiences to those around her. Jackie dedicated her life to caring for her family and embraced many others as her own, creating a wide circle of extended family and friends through her welcoming spirit.
Jackie was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary McClain; her brother, William Gregory McClain; and her beloved sons, Darrin and Damon McClain.
Jackie leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted daughter and granddaughter, Danielle and Dasia; bonus daughter, Penny; grandsons, Chrishawn, Damon Jr., Stephen, Darrin, Dane and DeMarcus; great-grandchildren, Glory, Damon III and Reign; sisters, Hope Martin (Peter) and Julie McClain; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins and close friends.
Jackie will be remembered for her unwavering love, her fierce loyalty to family, and her ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the laughter she inspired and the deep roots of faith and family she nurtured. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those who love her.
A memorial visitation for Jackie will be held Monday, April 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
