

Mattie moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1940 at the age of four years old, she attended John Hope Elementary School 26 and Crispus Attucks High School.
Mattie attended New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she professed Christ as her personal savior at the age of fifteen.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband; Basil Reid, her parents; father Walter (Nancy-stepmom) McGee Sr.; mother Martha Eastern; son Charles Ray Graves; sisters Lillian West, Martha Kelly, and Tomalu McGee; brothers Walter McGee Jr., Vernon McGee, Jann King (stepbrother).
Mattie (Ma) was a loyal wife, strong and courageous mother, loving sister, nurturing grandmother and a jewel to her community.
Mattie love for Christ was so strong; she taught and led the example of pray by praying over every meal and every night before she went to bed. Standing firm on “cleanliness being next to godliness…”
Her passion for cooking produced food for the soul and her love for music created songs to remember while her dancing warmed the hearts of many especially when her favorite singers came on; Sammy Davis Jr., Sam Cook, Ray Charles, James Brown, Michael Jackson and Usher.
Mattie (Ma) loved popcorn and watching; Walker Texas Ranger with Chuck Norris or Xena- The Warrior Princess. Her favorite movies were; Western Movies, Set it Off and Desperado or anything with Sidney Poitier and Clint Eastwood who were two of her favorite actors. She enjoyed going to Café (The Center) to hang with friends, playing bingo, exercising, taking trips and creating new hobbies.
She was précised about her appearance and always had to make a grand entrance rather it be coming down the stairs or entering a room she was a true Diva and Queen in her own rights.
On April 27, 2020 Mattie transitioned from labor to reward and leaves to cherish her memory her children: Two daughters Joyce William, and Mary (Eddie) Callaway, Four sons; Frederick (Jeannie) Graves; Leroy (Tina) Graves; Michael Graves; Gary (Vesalie) Graves. Three sisters; Mary Taylor, Nancy Dodd, and Eliza McGee, a stepbrother Roosevelt King. Twenty-two grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
