

Melvin started his early education in Kokomo, IN, later he moved to Indianapolis, IN attending the Indianapolis Public School System (Arsenal Tech High School). After High School, Melvin enlisted into the United States Army. Returning from the service he worked several jobs. He worked for the Indiana State Fairgrounds for many years and later was employed for 12 years at VA Medical Center up until his passing.
Melvin could be the live of the party. He loved fishing on the quiet banks, but when teaching his grandsons how to fish there went the quiet. Melvin had a distinctive whistle that can be heard letting you know that he was around.
Melvin was previously married, and the beautiful Joy Jean was born.
Melvin married Tammy Lynn Johnson on August 28, 1989, to this union two children were born Alex E. May and LaQuita M. May. A 40-year journey coming to an end. Rest easy, “Ole Man”, rest easy, no more suffering and no more pain.
Mevin was preceded in death by his parents Barbara and Eugene, Grandmother Pauline Downing, Brother Donald Eubank, Sister Diana Blanche, Nephew DeShon Downing, Grandson Alex E. May Jr. and Brother-In-Law John Chatman (Cindy).
Melvin leaves behind his family to cherish his memories: Wife Tammy, children Joy, Alex and LaQuita. Mother-In-Law Sonja Johnson, Father-In-Law Robert Johnson, Stepmother-In-Law Ann May; Sister Paula May; Sister-In-Law Kimberley Cameron; Brothers Bertruam Eubank, Nicholas May (Sandra), Ricky May and Brother-In-Laws Steve Blanche and James Chatman (Christie) Grandchildren: Tamerah, Quiana, Monte’, Sean, DeMar, Alexiavan; Dexter, Deniecia, Christique, Tiana, SaMaya, Autumn, Rryi and DeAnthony, Step Son Melvin E God Sister Della Fox Baker and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
A memorial gathering for Melvin will be held Monday, October 23, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
