Michael was born on October 16, 1959 to the late Golden Wheeler and Lois Stene Wheeler.
Michael attended St. Columbanus in Chicago, Illinois, and obtained his GED while enlisting in the United States Army. He was a veteran of the Cold War, and reached the rank of Specialist 4.
Michael's father, Golden, dedicated time to teaching him mechanics, the importance of family, and the harmonica. Michael had the opportunity to play the blues alongside his father.
He met Antoinette Kemp in the alley (to work on her car) which has been a long running joke in our family. Michael and Antoinette were married on 2/14/1989 in Milwaukee, WI and in 1991, they welcomed their daughter, Michel'le. In 1996, Michael became a Police Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and was an advocate for the brave men and women that proudly served our country.
In April 2001, Michael began courageously fighting end-stage renal failure for 25 years. Despite health obstacles, Michael was anchored in the Word of God and bravely walked in faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV
Michael enjoyed traveling with his family, and spending time with his loved ones. He was a man of integrity and always checked on others. He spent time on his knees praying for his family's salvation despite his own circumstances.
He was preceded in death by his first daughter, Baby Wheeler, granddaughter Brit'Tani, his brother Larry Wiley, his father, Golden Wheeler, and his mother, Lois Stene Wheeler.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Michel'le Holton (Paul), Kimberly Kemp, his siblings; Jeri Ann, Laurie Herbert (Darrell), Stephen (Salina) and Jeffrey (Terri) his grandchildren, Brei'Ana, Brandon, GioVanni, Leila Lynn, and his great- grandchildren, Gage, and Esmeralda; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dear friends, Fred McAllen Sr., and Charles McClendon.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to his countless doctors, nurses, and medical staff at the VA, and at Brown County Health & Living. In addition to his caregivers, Nathaniel Matthews and Janice Turk. Your compassion and kindness is forever appreciated.
