Mr. Bobby Long

Bobby received his primary education while living with his grandparents, John and Bama Roland in Alabama. He later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in the early 1950’s and lived with his Aunt Luella Roland where he attended and graduated Tech High School.

Bobby served his country in the United States Army from 1959 and honorably discharged in 1961. He served in theTrp A 3rd Recon Sq. 12th Cav., Artillery Division. He was a reservist until 1965.

After Bobby was honorably discharge from the military, he worked at RCA from 1961 to 1976 as a Press Setup Operator and attended Indiana Vocational Technical College. On October 29, 1977, Bobby married the love of his life Jerry Dean Gant. Bobby was also a dedicated Millwright worker at Allison Transmission for 33 years until he retired in 2009. The only thing that could come before Allison Transmissions, were his grandkids.

Although Bobby had retired, he continued to work part time as a security officer for Lucas Oil Stadium and Circle City Security covering the Eastern Star Church facilities up until he fell ill.

Bobby was a gentle, kindhearted, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. His life was filled with love of life and joy of family, always helping family and friends. He loved and enjoyed his time with his family, especially his grandchildren showing them the support and love they needed. When you needed a friend, Bobby was there. Letting you figure it out on your own without you knowing it. We will never be without our father, grandfather and friend because he touched our lives and showed us what it means to love and respect each other.

Mr. Bobby Long departed this life on Tuesday, March 04, 2014 at the age of seventy-seven years eight months and seventeen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Long Sr., and Arlene Roland Long; brothers, Frank Long Jr., John N. Long, Willie R. Long, and Charles �"Mack” Long.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife, Jerry Dean Long of 36 years; by his side until the very end. Sons, Yulon �"Dondi” (Norma) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Corey Gant, and Derrick Gant; grandchildren, Brandon Rice, Christopher Johnson of San Diego, CA, Nakiya Rice, Ashley Johnson of San Diego, Ca, Jerrice Gant, and Xzayvier Oglesby; great grandchildren, Rayquion Owens, Tayshaun Rice, Trayvon Owens and a host of other relatives and friends.
