

Allen attended IPS schools and Crispus Attucks High School. He also earned a certification from a local mechanic school. He professed a hope in Christ at a young age. He was a former member of Triumph The Church and Kingdom of God in Christ; Mt. Calvary Apostolic Church (Elder Danny Carey); and was a member of Eternal Life Apostolic Church for many years under the leadership of the late Bishop William D. Pippens, Sr.
Allen worked at various foundries throughout the city; Kingan/Hygrade Meat Packing Company as a young man. He retired from Truck and Bus in 1983 where he had worked for 18 years.
Allen enjoyed sports, gardening, hunting, fishing, building, and anything to do with using his hands. He was a hardworking man and took very good care of his wife and family. He will always be remembered for his many accounts of life stories and lessons learned.
Deacon Allen L. Parrish departed this life on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the age of 97 years, one month and thirty days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frankie Martin and George Mason Whitney, Sr; stepmother Ruth Steele Whitney;
He leaves to carry on his legacy: his devoted loving caring wife, Barbara Ann Parrish of 32 years sons, John D. (Arlene) Henry, Larry A. (Mary) Parrish, Alex D. (Lorraine), Parrish, Wilmer D. (Judy Stiers) Parrish; and daughters, Donna M. Parrish-Franklin, Judy L. Young, Ollise L. Hayes, Charla Y. Hayes; brothers: George Mason Whitney Jr., Jerald Whitney, Charlie Whitney; Sisters; Josie Boards, Brenda Whitney, Hattie Whitney; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and other family members.
