Mr. John Winters

passed away October 6, 2010. He was born November 22, 1927 to the late John Sr. and Leontine Winters. A graduate of Crispus Attucks High School in 1945, he attended the extension of Indiana University of Indianapolis until enlisting in the Army and becoming a paratrooper. He was a Community Relations Manager for the Wonder Bread Company, the Indianapolis Housing Authority and C.A.A.P. and member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of Southern Cross Lodge #39, a Past Grand Worthy Patron, Past Potentate and Patron of OES Chapter #45.

Married in 1947 to the late Lora D. Winters, he was the father of seven children from that union and the father of five through his marriage to Elizabeth Everett.

John is survived by his children, Brenda (William) Berry, Arthur (Connie), John, Michael, Reginald (Beverly), and Gloria Winters, Allison (Edward) Neville and Tanya Ali; Patricia Hayes, Debra (Michael) Majors, Janice (Joe) Lewis, Tracy (Billy) Irons, Randy Everett; siblings, Ruth Shepherd, Jacqueline, Cynthia, and Rev Ronald (Jan) Winters; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, Masonic and Eastern Star family.
