

Freddie Wilson Colbert daughter of the late Willie Louis Ramsey and Essie Mae McElroy was born April 26, 1936 in Orrville, Alabama. At an early age she was baptized at Rising Star Primitive Baptist Church, Rev. David S. Carlisle, Pastor. There she attended Sunday school and was a Junior Usher.
Freddie attended Keith Elementary School and Keith High School where she graduated. After graduation Freddie relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. She joined New Liberty Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Walter E. Starks. Freddie was a very active and dedicated member of New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the Senior Usher Board, member of the New Liberty Ensembles and Church Choir. Freddie served as president of the Church Choir for over twenty years. Freddie had a gift to welcome members and visitors at church services with her own unique style.
Freddie grew up in a household with her beloved Aunts that most others thought were her Sisters. She loved all of her Sister/Aunts. She always shared stories and jokes often about growing up with her Sister/Aunts and about Greg & Brenda.
Freddie was employed as an Assembly Worker at RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronic retiring after 39 years. Later she worked for Pike Township Schools, serving in the lunchroom for 13 years. She loved spoiling the kids and the kids loved her. She retired from this position in 2012.
She loved her family and she loved helping people. Freddie said if God blessed her to have a home, she would help the homeless. She has had several families to live in her home. Her hobby was playing dominoes with her Mother and family.
Freddie was one to The Best Mother’s in the World to her son Gregory Wilson and her daughter Brenda Richardson Evans.
Freddie departed her earthly life on Monday, November 17, 2014 at her daughter’s home. Preceding her in death are her parents, her beloved sister/aunt Bernice Collier and two husbands George Wilson and Robert Colbert.
Those left to cherish her memories: one son Gregory (Kathy) Wilson, one daughter Brenda (Richard) Evans, Indianapolis, IN; three grandsons Desmond (Amanda), Andre (Ebony) and Kinte Westmoreland, Indianapolis, IN; two granddaughters Janay and Shanay Harris, Nashville, TN; seven great-grandchildren, three stepchildren Terri (Michael) Lewis, Robin (Cal) Ford, Indianapolis, IN & Robert Colbert, III; one brother Lindberg (Shirley) Ramsey Mobile, AL; three sisters Eura Flournoy Suitland, MD; Deloris (Robert) Riley, Beatrice Ramsey, Mobile, AL; New Liberty Baptist Church Family, a host of cousins and friends.
