Shay attended Indianapolis public schools during her elementary years and continued her education in the Washington Township School District. She graduated from North Central High School in 1979 and continued her education at Butler University, completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988.
Shay professed her faith in Christ at an early age. Her desire was to please the Lord and live her life to bring glory to Him by serving others. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and served the Lord faithfully there for many years.
Shay was employed at the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis serving at Ransburg, Fall Creek and Youth Enrichment Centers as a Program Executive Director where she retired in 2010. She coordinated the annual YMCA "Block Party" to unite communities together in 1996, which continued for nine years. She had a passion for helping other people, especially children who were very dear to her heart. Committed to excellence, serving her community, gifted with creativity and having a special fashion flair, Shay was a role model to those who knew and loved her.
Shay loved to spend time with her family and friends, watching Turner Classic movies, shopping and travelling extensively. She was a very generous person, full of compassion and always willing to help anyone in need.
Shay departed this earthly life on Friday, October 5, 2012 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, E.W. Williamson, and leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved mother, Varnell Williamson of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Pamela Sweatt of Indianapolis, Indiana and Shirley (Alonzo) Grisby of Silverdale, Washington; two brothers, Rodney Williamson and Tracy (Marsha) Williamson of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and friends.
