Nancy Kappes went home to be with the Lord in the loving presence of her family on January 10, 2018.
She was born to John and Mildred Max on January 20, 1934 in Indianapolis.
Nancy was a 1951 graduate of Broad Ripple High School. She attended Butler and then graduated from Indiana University in 1955 with a degree in Communications.
On November 7, 1959, she married Pete Kappes. They were married for 38 years. She was preceded in death by Pete.
During her life she was an active volunteer for multiple organizations including church and the women's auxiliary to the Indianapolis Children's Bureau. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital as well at Connor Prairie where she put her theatrical skill to work portraying the Dr.'s wife and the school teacher. Over the years she attended Orchard Park Presbyterian, Second Presbyterian and Faith Church.
Nancy loved music. She was a member of church choirs and the Sweet Adelines singing organization. She loved traveling with Pete demonstrating and selling the hand crafted dulcimers that he made.
Nancy was a devoted wife and mother. She had a zest for life that had her frequently searching for new experiences. She exposed her children to theater, concerts and anything else that would expand their horizons.
She was quick with an opinion and loved to discuss current topics. She wasn't afraid to let people know what she thought.
Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Christopher & Julie Kappes, Holly & Bill Hayden, and grandchildren Spencer Hayden, Katherine Hayden, Joshua Kappes & Pamela Hunter Hayden.
