Nancy Maria Letko Munson, age 67, passed away on July 24, 2021. She was born in Albany, NY, minutes before twin Mary, to Peter and Anna Mae "Nancy" (Welling) Letko, on March 23, 1954. Nancy grew up on the family farm, later recounting fond memories of her pet lamb Lilac, honing her rifle skills, playing with her Welling cousins, and enjoying the rituals of the Russian Orthodox Church with extended members of the Letko family. In high school, she was an exchange student in Afghanistan, and later traveled to France, Belize, Brazil, and other countries.
She earned a B.S. in Biology from her father's alma mater, Siena College, and later earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1982. Nancy taught and mentored hundreds of students while teaching at Springfield College, the University of Indianapolis, Martin University, Arlington High School, and ITT Tech. She also actively participated in the American Chemical Society.
Nancy recently celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with husband John Munson. She knew he was "the one" when she watched him complete the NYT Sunday crossword unassisted. Nancy also devoted herself to raising their two daughters, pushing them to become, respectively, an accomplished attorney and web developer. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed making stunning and award-winning beadwork, as well as served on the board of the Indiana Bead Society.
Nancy is predeceased by her parents; younger brother Billy; and nephew Tony. She is survived by her husband John; daughters Emily and Ginny; siblings Gerry (Kathi), Cynthia (Bill), Mary (Chuck), and sister-in-law Becky; 12 nieces and nephews; pack member Rigby; and other beloved family and friends.
