Novel Campbell was born Novel Stubbs to Ellen Montgomery and Richard Stubbs in Cherry Valley, Arkansas. She was the 7th child and the only girl out of 10 children. Her family moved to Indianapolis for a better life when she was a toddler. Growing up, she learned one of the greatest traits and her personal love language that she would hold dear for the rest of her life; the act of service. She attended School 23 then School 17 following. Afterwards, she graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She enjoyed attending neighborhood socials and provided cosmetology hair services, which would later become a family trade. It was around that time that she would meet the man that she would share her life with for the next 65 years.
Novel and Arbery Campbell Sr. were married on October 25, 1959 and they moved into the house where they would begin their wonderful adventure together and start their family. Soon after, they were blessed with 3 children, Latonia, Arbery "Speed" Jr., and Tracey. Novel found her faith early in life by devoting her life to Christ. Grace Memorial Missionary Baptist Church is where she received the word and served as a humble servant there for over 45 years. She worked at RCA Records for number of years and received several accolades. She has placed 1st in many contest and competitions in the art of sculpting and pottery. The creative and innovative spirit ran deep through her veins. But it was her writing that moved and awed everyone who had the privilege of reading her remarkable talents. An extraordinary NOVEList.
Latonia, her eldest daughter, was called home early but helped prepare the Heavens for her arrival on September 26, 2023. Novel led such a full life filled with lots of love and laughter. We love her so much that 81 still seems too soon.
As Novel returns to her Lord and Savior, she leaves to cherish her beloved memory with her husband and soulmate Arbery Campbell Sr., her surviving children Arbery "Speed" Campbell Jr., and Tracey Rice (Carl "Rusty" Rice Jr.), Novel's grandchildren, Tierra Campbell, Cameron Rice, and Corey Rice, Carl "Rocky" Rice III (Brandi) 4 great-grandchildren Analise and Marcellus rice, Caleigh and Braelyn Rice, her dear brother Jesse Stubbs, an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, adoring friends, and all that called her mom.
Just like a rose garden overflowing with beautiful blooms, Novel's love and affection could permeate a room. Her glowing spirit was soft and warm like petals of a perfect flower in early spring. Her hilarious wit and giving heart touched all who knew her. It is there she will be immortal as she lives in our hearts always and forever.
